An articulated soft building contained within a glass and steel box is the new pinnacle of connection between Italy and Europe. The juxtaposition between stiff and flexible elements highlights the Cloud’s monumentality amongst its neighboring 1930s rationalist-style buildings. Typically, architecture is composed of the structural combination of hard elements and then internally seasoned by soft ingredients. What if we could design a soft structure with a hard interior? Then, how does the articulation of hard structure impact soft space when it is displayed internally versus when it is imposed externally?
